This new pool building designed by Gorniak & McKechnie Architects, provides improved facilities for the client. Replacing a sub-standard pool at the rear of the main dwelling, the DDA compliant building provides a new pool, with associated plant room, changing and leisure area.
This extension was constructed by Elliston Steady and Hawes, requiring a piled raft foundation due to the moat-side location, to support both the pool and the building. Once out of the ground, construction reverted to lightweight timber framed walls, supporting a vaulted roof with exposed steel tie trusses and vaulted canopy to the terrace. A large proportion of walls are given to extensive open glazing allowing maximum light to the pool and affording views to the moat. Integration with the moat continues externally, with the perimeter terrace walkway cantilevering out to provide dramatic views over the water.
