Lowestoft Joint Venture project (Riverside Offices) was highly commended by the judges in the RICS Awards 2016 – commercial category. The structure comprises a three storey office building for Suffolk County Council and Waveney District Council. The building occupies a brownfield site which required extensive remediation to manage contamination present and consequently required substantial sub-structure works. The construction comprised a steel frame superstructure with precast concrete Termodeck flooring, providing heating and cooling through thermal mass. The whole is supported on a series of reinforced concrete ground beams, pile caps and piles.
Located close to the tidal Lake Lothing; the surface water drainage system was designed to temporarily retain the 1:30 year rainfall event on site, as the outlet into Lake Lothing was tide locked, twice a day at high tide. JP Chick and Partners Ltd supplied civil engineering, structural engineering and environmental services for the project.
JP Chick worked closely with the design team throughout the early phase of the scheme and after novation to the design and build contractor. Key Performance Indicators and program of deliverables were adhered to, such that Contractor’s Proposals were delivered to the client on schedule and on budget.
