High Chelmer Car Park
JP Chick & Partners were appointed by Chelmsford City Council to consider alternatives for the replacement of the waterproof decking to the upper 3 levels levels 11, 12 and 13. Alternatives were considered and priced competitively. Products such as Triflex, Sika and Deckmaster were considered along with a removal and replacement of the asphalt surfacing.
The most economical solution was found to be a repair and plain off upper layer of existing asphalt surfacing and add a new Sika coating to provide the weather proofing and resistance to the upper floor. At the same time painting and decorating, white lining and other signing was replaced.
The consultancy contract was awarded to J P Chick & Partners in March and the works were complete in September. Maker’s undertook the construction work.
Within the contract a number of new gully drains were core drilled as a test to see whether this removed the problem of standing water in areas where existing drains were not present. This test to date has been proven successful and would be rolled out within the next 3-5 years to the deck surfaces beneath which has standing water due to the open sides of the car park. Phase III of works to High Chelmer car park is therefore envisaged in the near future and will include safety fencing to the deck edges.
