Care Home in Cavendish

Devonshire House, Cavendish, started life as the home of Sue Ryder. Over the years it was added to to accommodate humanitarian work, supporting people with complex needs and life-threatening conditions across the UK and internationally. The buildings had been unoccupied for many years and required complete renovation and redevelopment. The main house (Sue Ryder’s living accommodation) is a Grade II listed property,

We were commissioned to assess the structural integrity of the existing structures and design glazed links and foundations for new elements. The listed house required strengthening at first floor level with minimal replacement of timber. The sole plate was replaced in areas where damp had irrevocably damaged the timber. The listed house required an extensive makeover which was sympathetic to the original structure.

We undertook the design of foundations and steel frames for numerous extensions and new builds on the site. The glazed links were constructed to bring many of the structures on site together as one building.
